Hi, my name is Simon.

I have a strong passion for what I am trying to achieve with my take on the landscape. We humans are a product of 3.8 billion years of evolution on Earth. Our ‘local’ universe began its expansion 13.7 billion years ago making our 200 thousand years a ‘flash in the pan’ (Us humans have been around for approximately this period). Our species will continue to evolve until, either artificial intelligence has taken control, or we have extinguished ourselves with the aid of nuclear fusion.

Our sun will of course begin its demise between five and seven billion years from now, by which time we will undoubtably have long since ‘flown the planet’. The transience of life can be witnessed everywhere we care to look, from the thousands of insects cleaned daily from our windscreens, to our gradual but certain decay and eventual demise. Nothing is spared this fate, not even our very own universe which is expanding at an ever increasing rate. If this continues as calculated, all matter will tear itself apart leaving only isolated sub atomic particles. Of course our universe initially began with quantum fluctuations, so perhaps it is all about birth and rebirth. An endless ‘cycle’ where time itself repeats

I love to photograph the geological timescale where hundreds of millions of years can be observed in many beautiful elements covering a rainbow of colours, also the more recent sedimentary layers where our predecessors can be observed in the form of countless marine fossils. I also find inspiration in decaying materials, the flow of liquids such as majestic waterfalls cascading from mountains or cliffs, or the oceans crashing onto our wonderful coastlines creating amazing geological features due to erosion.

Please feel free to comment. All comments and suggestions are of huge value to my continuing enjoyment of photography and as such are extremely welcome. I also hope that my work has inspired folk to get out into our precious and amazing landscapes and enjoy.

Many thanks for your visit.

Simon.
